Replacing your motorcycle battery?

Posted by Tracy on 10th Sep 2018

One of the most frequently asked questions we hear from Motorcycle riders is ' when should I replace my motorcycle or scooter battery?' Well, it's not always black and white on the topic of battery replacement since motorcycle batteries don’t always get a lot of attention.

While batteries may be one of the most important parts of the motorbike, they often get forgotten about when the bikes are running and working well.

Here are some tips that may help you in determining when it is time to replace your motorcycle battery.

  1. Signs of Battery Damage? Inspect your battery regularly or at every service by a professional mechanic for any damages or irregularities. Sometimes rust will present itself on a battery or bulging. These are signs that the battery needs to be replaced.
  2. The Bike Won’t Start? It startles when your motorcycle simply won’t start. In order to find out if the battery needs to be replaced, have it checked by a battery meter if you have one or ask a professional mechanic to find out how much power the battery is able to deliver. If it is too low of a number, you will need a replacement.
  3. You have an older motorcycle with a battery that you cannot remember when it was last replaced? It is recommended that you have your bike battery replaced every two to three years if you ride it regularly. This will keep you from running into any unexpected problems. It’s imperative that you have your battery checked regularly and replace it when it needs to be replaced
